What is a caviar tasting?
A caviar tasting at The Caviar Bar is a guided experience at our Mayfair counter. You taste each grade side by side, comparing flavour, pearl size, texture and finish. Each variety tells a different story — from the clean minerality of Baerii to the deeply complex, buttery finish of Royal Beluga.
Tastings are served on warm buckwheat blinis with crème fraîche, or directly from the tin using our mother-of-pearl spoons. Our team guide you through each grade, explaining origin, species and what makes each one distinct.
Caviar tasting grades available
- Royal Baerii — the ideal starting point. Fine pearls with clean minerality and a subtle nutty finish.
- Oscietra — the connoisseur favourite. Golden-brown pearls with a rich, nutty, creamy character.
- Imperial Caviar — smooth and approachable, positioned between Oscietra and Kaluga in depth and richness.
- Royal Kaluga — generous pearl, rounded buttery texture and soft salinity. Impressive without being heavy.
- Royal Beluga — the rarest expression. Large grey pearls with a long, complex finish and refined buttery character. The statement grade.
